From 'ZERO' to the Second Coming

Have you ever wondered about 'God' and who 'God' really is? Of course you have! As I work in computers I tend to find they rule my life (mostly) and because of that (knowing my luck), it could well be that the be-all and end-all of my existence, my very reason for being, 'God' if you like -as a number of religious beliefs would argue we are solely here to serve- is probably a computer!

Well, stranger things have been known to happen before now and come to think of it, it's actually quite scary when your 'Windows' programme starts to 'learn' what you are doing and pre-empt you at ever increasing turns. Next step, it will answer you back! I have visions of on-screen error messages reading 'you want what? when? not now I have a headache - good bye' flashing in front of eyes from the monitor or a metallic grating voice synthesiser saying similar at me... Now that IS scary!        'Small potatoes' do I hear you say? possibly, but never the less relevant. Add that to the fact that with the internet these computer brains cells are all linking together... Just think of the resulting brain power here! And, what if this computer Brain became 'smart', with all of its individual components connected like the neurons in a giant Brain via the net? What then?
This so called 'Artificial Intelligence' would certainly have god like powers over us if the movies are to be believed (The Forbin Project for one - see left). It doesn't bear thinking about – or does it? How much science fiction has now become fact?    And, what if we are the product of something like this that's already happened but on a vast cosmic scale?  What if we, with our connections and electrical impulses, are really just an experimental sequence of binary that's still being written?  I digress - slightly!
