Standing for the Stones  - Dolmens Are Forever!

A quoit or dolmen (also sometimes known as cromlech among other names) is a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb, usually consisting of three or more upright stones supporting a large flat horizontal capstone (table).  Lanyon Quoit in Cornwall, UK pictured here (below) is a prime example...

Most date from the early Neolithic period (4000 to 3000 BC). Dolmens were usually covered with earth or smaller stones to form a barrow, though in many cases that covering has weathered away over the many centuries, leaving only the stone "skeleton" of the burial mound intact.
The word/name "Dolmen" originates from the expression taol maen, which means "stone table" in Breton, whereas "Quoit" is the term that's commonly used in Cornwall, e.g. Trevethy Quoit (below).

Be they dolmen, quoits, antas, cromlechs or what ever language they are referred depending where you are in the world, you will find that they are far more widespread than you could possibly imagine. Global in fact with corresponding 'architecture'... For example, interestingly enough, the number of dolmens in North and South Korea, approximately 30,000, is about 40% of the total number of dolmens in the world...! (gasp)  - now would you 'Adam and Eve' it! In addition to that, over 3000 dolmens and other structures have been found in the North-Western Caucasus region of Russia, where more and more dolmens are discovered in the mountains each year....  hence the past becomes the future as yet undiscovered'

I guess you could really say that 'Dolmens are Forever' but are they a girls best friend as well..?
I suppose that would depend on who was buried there and what 'anti-aging' products the original builders used to make these stones look so good for so long...
